CCR Question 1

Today in class I worked on the script even more and when I got home I got to work filming the parts for the project.

I have almost finished all I need for question one and I am working on the script for question two. This has taken me around 3 and a half hours so far including the time I had in school, and the time I had at home editing. This post may seem short and that's because it is. The picture shows how much I have done and that's all that needs to be shown. My next posts will be documenting the continued process of making both creations for the CCR.

Working On CCR

So far I am working out the script for my CCR while figuring out what type of project I want to do. I could do an interview, a podcast, a presentation with visuals, or I can be really creative and think of another idea. So far I am leaning towards a presentation where I talk recording myself, and then voice-over clips of the content I am talking about. The picture shows how far I have gotten with answering the four questions. As you can see, I have a long way to go.

Another Group Meeting

Today in class we were in groups and we discussed where we were in our projects and how it is going. Most of us are done with the film opening and are working on the CCR. I enjoyed hearing that I wasn't the only one having issues during the filming process and I am proud to say that the shots turned out really well. Mainly during the group meeting, I was reassured that although the CCR is a big deal, it shouldn't be a stressful project because most things I need to touch on are already stated in my blog, or shown in my film opening.

After the meeting, I started a google doc for my CCR while collaborating with my partner about what we might want to do for the two creations. I am excited to show the vast amount of knowledge I have gained from this class.

Finishing Recording The Project

We finally finished recording and I cannot be happier. We had some ups and downs with this project but overall, I am excited to see how it turns out. These are pictures we took during the filming on Friday.

These pictures are of Randy driving to work and Randy closing the door from inside his house at night.

Friday was a busy day because we filmed twice that day. We met up around 2 in the afternoon, finished around 5, then met back up around 8:30 to film the rest. The shots during the day were of Randy getting his sunglasses and jacket from the table, saying bye to his dog Charlie, pulling out of the driveway,  driving to work, and finally pulling into the parking lot and walking towards the building he works at. The shots during the night were of Randy driving home from work, pulling into his driveway, going inside his house, and seeing that there is a different dog (Kyle's other dog named Max) instead of Charlie. Friday was a really busy day and it was really fun! We plan to have the project edited by the end of next week.

Improved Character: Randy Greggorson

We filmed the rest of our project but had to get creative in how we showed the rich character. Our actor who was going to play the rich guy was not available so I played the rich guy instead. We had to find a way to do this without affecting the story that we wanted to portray so we used shots that obscure my face (for the most part).

Meet Randy Greggorson. This is me wearing the outfit in front of my dad's convertible that we used for the film. Martin's blog will look a lot different than mine for this post since he didn't have to wear a suit in 90-degree weather while IN A CONVERTIBLE. I was sweating so much however, the shots we took looked amazing. It may not have been exactly what we originally planned, but in my humble opinion, the way it turned out is much, much better.

Not only did we film the rest of our project, but we also filmed some of Kyle's project as I starred as the main character in his. I wore the same outfit for Kyle's film and we filmed it before ours. This took about an hour and made it worth Kyle's time for helping us. We are grateful to Kyle since he helped film our project, let us use his house, and even let us use his dog.

First Day of Filming

We originally had planned for Wednesday to be the first day of filming however, due to being unprepared, we decided that Thursday we would film. We had prepared outfits to wear and the location so all we needed was to get together with another person so they could film the scenes that Martin and I were both in. We had our friend Kyle film us as he is also in media studies and I was the main character in his film opening.

On Thursday we filmed the scenes that the dumb characters were in. This should have taken an hour to film, however when we brought Charlie (the dog in the film) out he wouldn't go back inside and we ended up taking him on a walk, going outside the neighborhood. We felt extremely ridiculous and hot because Martin and I wore the dumb outfits in 85-degree weather with random cars passing by. Martin said it best, "The dog was difficult to work with on camera too. To be frank, I hate that dog, but we needed him for several shots in our project."

Day 1 of filming went pretty smoothly.

Filming Schedule

Scheduling is an important part of the filming process and my partner and I have schedules when we will record and a possible location for recording. We will record during spring break in the neighborhood "Palm Islands" and we will use either mine or Eric's car for the rich guy.

Eric's car looks similar to this (I don't have a picture of it)

One back up plan is to use my dads car instead. It is a black convertible, and I would end up playing two roles. This is equally as good because the point of our film is to have humor.

Martin is a really good editor and he will be doing most of the editing for our film opening. I will be involved in making sure he makes the film to be what we both want.

We choose spring break because we will both be able to meet since Martin was extremely busy for the last couple weeks.

Main Themes

Main Themes

One theme is to be in the present moment

In Dumb and Dumber, Lloyd Christmas is one of the main characters and lives life in the moment for the most part. In our film, Zach and Martin are very similar to Lloyd as they are spontaneous and always try to have fun because they believe that's the only way to truly live. However,  the rich businessman character is always stressed and overworked and rationalizes it by saying it's for his future.

Another theme is not to change yourself to please others.

Zach (on the left) and Martin (on the right)

If you act a certain way because it's who you are, you shouldn't change to please someone. George Washingless, played by Zach, and Jorge Santana, played by Martin, are dumb, yet they don't know or care that other people think they are. They have dreams and ambitions that outweigh any criticisms made by anyone other than themselves.

My Main Inspiration

My Main Inspiration

Going into this film I was inspired by Jim Carrey's acting performance in many films. In my film opening, you can see some aspects of his characters that I tried to emulate and also add my own twist.

Characters such as Lloyd Christmas, from Dumb and Dumber will be similar to the characters in my movie.

Other characters are Ace Ventura, from Pet Detective
Our two main characters will be similar to Jim Carrey's roles because the film is trying to be funny but also show how some people live carefree and happy lives.

In my next blog post, I will discuss our film's main themes.

Review of other blogs

Today in class we reviewed two blogs as a way to learn from blogs that are completed. The process was very helpful and I learned a lot.

Each post was very detailed and relates to the entire process of creating the film opening. I liked the pictures because they are used to explain what was chosen. For example, "What you watch," was multiple pictures of the different versions of it.

After going over the blogs I learned that I need to be more detailed, and use more visuals. The blogs I viewed had a certain way of explaining the process in detail that made me feel I was actually apart of it. With practice I hope to be able to write my blogs with as much detail in order to portray the actual process.

There was one part in a blog that explained how the person filmed way too much and had to cut some scenes. I am worried for my own film about how filming too much and I will need to have a detailed enough plan in order for this not to happen as bad.

CCR: THERE'S ANOTHER PART TO THE PROECT??

 CCR Notes

Today in class on 3/3/23 we learned about the CCR which stands for Creative Critical Reflection. I had heard about it from my teacher but I had no idea what it was or when it was due. Basically, we learned that the CCR is a piece of media that we put together that sums up our project while explaining what we learned throughout the process of creating the film opening. There are 4 questions that we have to answer in two media creations with a maximum time of 10 minutes total in order to get full credit. The CCR can be answered in a slideshow, podcast, interview, and other creative ways we can come up with the main goal of being creative while showing the knowledge we have gained, and all the obstacles we have overcome.

The first two questions should be longer than the 3rd and 4th because they ask about the genre conventions, target audience, and how you will distribute your film opening. The 3rd and 4th ask about where you started vs where you ended, and you integrated technology into the project. The ending can be in either the first creation or the second, which showcases what you learned from the project as a whole. The CCR will allow me to describe my experience throughout the process of making my film opening, and show all the work I have put into it.

Scene by Scene Story Board

Story Board:

We haven't come up with a title yet so I will be referring to our film opening by calling it "our film opening." The opening starts out with a rich businessman getting ready to go to work following his routine with longer shots. Then the businessman pats his dog on the head and it cuts to him in his car. He pulls out of the driveway but doesn't notice that his dog somehow got outside and then the film cuts to Martin and Zach walking on the sidewalk. They are extremely dumb and are walking in the direction of the dog. The next scene is them walking up to the dog and playing with it. As they are shown with the dog, the film cuts to a montage of the businessman in his fancy car on the way to work. The film then cuts back to Martin and Zach playing with the dog yet again and being ridiculous with the way they act and their back-and-forth dialogue. During that scene Martin says, " Let's do something with the dog" and Zach agrees so they start walking away from the frame. The film then shows the businessman coming home from work after a long day, tired and less energetic. After he pulls into the driveway he goes into the house only to find his dog isn't there and yells out "WHERE THE F**K IS MY DOG!?!?"

Fonts

 Font types for Comedy movies

Red Bold Large

These are the criteria for the majority of classic comedy film fonts. The purpose is to call the reader's attention.

Our film opening will be a traditional comedy film so these are the most effective font criteria to use.

These types of posters are eye-catching and are for a specific purpose for the comedy film. The poster expresses the comedic nature of the film and follows other similar films.

Characters

Character Roles The Film

Eric (or someone else)- businessman with a missing dog

Martin- one of the dumb people

Zach- the other dumb person

Dog- Eric or my dog

We also are going to use Eric's or my Car for the businessman.

Martin and Zach are not very bright and aren't very good with people. They are friendly and nice but lack the intelligence to hold meaningful conversations. This is a problem for the rich businessman (Eric) because he is in a rush to find his dog.

***We haven't come up with the script yet, and we are working on the storyboard so this is an unfinished post, in a sense, that will be followed up with a continuation post soon.
